Sample Weight: 2lb 10 oz
Handle: round
Edge (at widest): 40mm
Finish: Poly coat
Toe Protection: Yes

My opinion

I was a little surprised with this bat as i actually found a noticeable difference on it from your stock standard SG bat. They have increased the size of the edges around the sweetspot similar to the T20i and T11i bats meaning you have a much better chance of clearing that fielder in the deep.  The bigger edges help you to transfer power to the ball meaning the ball will travel further than usual. If you get caught on the boundary alot then maybe this is the bat for you.

We Like

– The big 40mm edges

We Dislike

– The fact that i couldn’t tell the difference between the willow on this bat at $299 and the sunny tonny cricket bat which is $239. Maybe the extra $60 is for the bigger edges.

My opinion

A fantastic bat for the price. The quality of the willow is the same quality as is being used on some GM original cricket bats which are more than double the price. Its over all a very good bat. Good quality willow, good finish, good balance ( 1 or 2 ), pretty good ping and nice willow. Oh and best of all is the price at only $179

We Like

– The finish
– The quality of the willow and the price

We Dislike

– Not much for $179. you cant go wrong, maybe predictable shape.

My opinion

A very nice cricket bat. Might in fact be a misgrade. Very good willow ( not the best ) for the price. That makes the price and quality exceptional. Nothing special on the profile and design of this cricket bat as its a pretty standard design but overall a very good allround cricket bat good for both 50 over and 20/20 cricket.

We Like

– The finish
– The quality of the willow.

We Dislike

– Not much for $169. its a great little bat.

SG MAXILITE XL cricket batting pads Ambi

Im not going to be going into to much depth in this review, if you want to know materials used etc then click on one of the links and look at the image description on my website. just a few personal opinions etc is what i want to share here and comparisons between these SG cricket batting pads.

These SG maxilite pads are the new pads in my kit bag. I really like them. The quality is top notch. They are super light with each pad only weighing 1lbs 6oz. Ive found these very very comfortable and great to run in. they never got in the way on any of my shots and felt very confident in them when playing shots. The padding is superb and when getting hit by the ball on the pads i never had any issues. One negative about these pads is they are Ambi pads so you dont get the wrap around affect of the wings on other RH or LF pads. My rule of thumb is use your bat so that not an issue for me.

These pads sell for about $75

SG RSD PROLITE cricket batting pads

SG RSD PROLITE cricket batting pads

These SG pads look better in the pics than they actually are in real life. They have a very low level of padding and are probably only ok for school cricket. They weigh in at 1lbs 9oz each which is on the lighter side, but unlike the maxilite s, these are light because they have insufficient padding. So if you are not to serious about your cricket and play at a lower level then these pads at $45 will be great for you.

SG VS 319 ULTIMATE cricket batting pads

SG VS 319 ULTIMATE cricket batting pads

Now we are starting to get back on the right track with regards batting pads. The quality on these SG VS 319 Ultimate pads are very good and for only $65 its a good buy. The padding is good and these pads can easily be used in any club or regional level of cricket. They are less light than some other pads but not heavy by any means. weighing it at 1lbs 12oz each they are certainly manageable but not anywhere as light as the maxilite XL. i would spend the extra $10 and get the maxilites. oh wait a minute, i did.

SG TEST cricket batting pads

SG TEST cricket batting pads

And last but not least we have the much awaited for review of the SG test batting pads. Great quality international level batting pads. Costing you just $65 these are very good pads and an even better buy. Padding and comfort is superb. I also found these pads didn’t move around on my leg. Running down the pitch they stayed where i put them. Not like my old $160 puma pads that needed to be adjusted after ever run as they ended up on the side of my leg. The only negative i could find about these pads is the fact they are quite a bit heavier than the maxilite xl’s. weighing in at 1lbs 14oz, meaning the crappy $45 pads are lighter. im not sure thats a good thing.

Moral of the story, spend an extra $10 and get the Maxilites, unless you don’t like light pads or don’t like the moulded look, then the test pads are you best bet.

SG HILITE Leather Palm cricket batting gloves

SG HILITE Leather Palm cricket batting gloves

Now we are talking. if i was going to wear sausage finger gloves. These would be them. Very well priced at $60 and also splits in the fingers so you get good flexibility. Problem is the slight splits reduce the amount of peak protection you get from the padding. But thats ok these are still quality gloves and could be worn at test level cricket.

Hilite is one of the most premium batting gloves in the International range. Together these gloves weigh just 11.2 oz. The palm of this lightweight glove is made from premium quality leather made by PITTARDS®. The polyurethane used for the finger rolls is also imported.

  • Nylon gusset for ventilation
  • Ergonomic finger and thumb splits
  • Sponge-padded polyurethane back for better fit and comfort
  • Extra finger protection reinforced with a thermoplastic polyurethane insert in the first two fingers of the bottom hand
  • Lightweight and rounded high-density foam finger rolls
  • Split thumb and three-piece sidebars on lead hand
  • Leather tabs on fingertips
  • Extra PITTARDS® leather patch on hard-wearing areas of the palm
  • Mesh thumb for better ventilation
  • Polyurethane embossed knuckles
  • Toweled wristband with embossed Velcro® fastener

These gloves are available for purchase now at www.cricketstoreonline.com

SG RSD SUPALITE cricket batting gloves

SG RSD SUPALITE cricket batting gloves

SG RSD SUPALITE cricket batting gloves

As im sure many of you know im not a fan of the sausage finger due to the slight lack of flexibility in the gloves. But the fact remains that the Sausage finger design does give a better level of protection than the split finger design.

These SG RSD Supalite gloves are another fine example of the quality SG can put out. These not only look like quality but they really are. These same gloves with a Newbery label on would easily be double the price and as it is these are only $47 at www.cricketstoreonline.com.

RSD Supalite is one of the highest quality batting gloves in the International range. The palm of this glove is made from high quality leather. it has Imported polyurethane finger rolls. Nylon gusset for ventilation. Sponge-padded polyurethane back for better fit and comfort. Extra finger protection reinforced with a thermoplastic polyurethane insert in the first two fingers. Lightweight and rounded high-density foam finger rolls and split thumb. Three-piece sidebars on lead hand. Leather tabs on fingertips. Extra PITTARDS® leather patch on hard-wearing areas of the palm. Toweled wristband with embossed Velcro® fastener.

The Pittards feature on these gloves is one upgrade that is the current fashion in batting gloves and is a good feature i think. It covers the section on the palm that wears down the quickest so that will really help these gloves to last a bit longer.

SG are a force to be reckoned with this year. great job on these gloves guys.

SG Excelite cricket batting gloves

SG Excelite cricket batting gloves

This is a great set of gloves for $37. wow i wish i could produce gloves of this quality for this super low price. If you are on a tight budget, these are definitely the gloves for you. Available in regular mens as well as large mens size.  The Excelite is a lightweight glove with a premium quality leather palm. Together the gloves weight just 12.3 oz. The RSD supalites are 11.5 oz but are $10 more so for this price, this is a light set of gloves.

These gloves have Premium quality PVC finger rolls. Nylon gusset for extra ventilation. Sponge-padded polyurethane back for better fit and comfort. Thermoplastic polyurethane insert in the first two sections of the lead two fingers for protection. Three-piece sidebars on lead hand. Premium leather on fingertips.  Extra leather patch on hard-wearing areas of the palm. Toweled wristband with embossed Velcro® fastener.

Overall a good set of gloves. i normally prefer the block style split finger design, but feel on this pair that the split finger sections are just a little to long and doesn’t quite give me the flexibility i like to have in gloves i wear. And also feel because of this when you do grip the bat and the padded sections open up at the split that the gap is just a little to big for comfort and if the ball happens to strike you right on the split, you might actually feel the impact more than you would like. Even with this slight flaw, i think for this price these are awesome gloves. i cant remember when the last time i was wrapped on the fingers anyway, so what do i know right??

SG T20 cricket bats review

SG T20 cricket bats review.

SG T11i 20/20 cricket bat.

Specifications

Origin: India
Wood: Highest quality english willow. (SG don’t disclose what grade of willow they use)
Sizes Available: SH and Long handle
Weight Guide: 2lb 8oz-3lb+
Sample Weight: 2lb 15 oz
Handle: round
Edge (at widest): 41mm
Finish: Poly coat
Toe Protection: Yes ( kookaburra tow guard )

My opinion

Good solid bat, big edges at 41mm but my sample bat used is a heavy 2.15 so you would expect big edges. Willow is good but im not sure if the willow spec is correct as it says highest quality english willow and im pretty sure they haven’t used players grade willow on this bat. probably more like a good looking piece of G3 or G2 english willow. There is nothing to fancy about this bat but will applaud SG for thinking out the box a little on this bat. It has a flat face ( which helps get the edges as big as possible ) and the have also only enlarged the edges new the sweetspot, helping to keep the weight down as much as possible. ( kinda like the Slazenger bats from a few years ago. )

We Like

– The finish and the ping, its a really good bat.
– The fact that they actually took a second and thought about the design of this bat

We Dislike

– The flat face, the round handle and the kookaburra toe guard on an SG bat.

SG T20i 20/20 cricket bat.

Specifications

Origin: India
Wood: Top of the line english willow ( thats different from finest quality available )
Sizes Available: SH and Long blade
Weight Guide: 2lb 8oz-3lb+
Sample Weight: 2lb 13 oz
Handle: round
Edge (at widest): 40mm
Finish: Natural finish
Toe Protection: Yes

My opinion

Overall this is a really good quality bat but as far as performance goes it performs the same as the T11i so if you are on a budget then buy the T11 and get a bat which performs the same as this one. problem really, is the price. If SG are going to charge $400+ for a 20/20 bat, they might as well tell you what grade the willow is.

We Like

– The finish
– The quality of the willow.

We Dislike

– The price and the round handle

So overall both bats are good. they both play well and each have their own unique profile and design. i would go for the T11i as its performance / balance and pickup is the same as the T20i, but its $200 cheaper.

SG TEST cricket batting pads and SG test cricket batting gloves review

So i know quite a few people have been waiting for this review, so here it is.
SG TEST cricket batting pads

One thing i really like about the SG gear for this year is that it all comes in a very good quality package of some sorts. every bat, every set of gloves, pads etc all has these very cool SG bags, and it will help you look after your gear for seasons to come. That says something about the company and their attitude towards their gear.

These Test pads, are good, weighing in at 1.14 lbs ea they are still quite light and have comfort as an added bonus as well. Good padding and also a very good quality level.

The SG test batting pads are Made from premium quality imported Polyurethane facing. They have Cotton filled knee rolls with a layer of high density foam reinforcement to help bolster the knee protection. Middle 2″ strap has a Butterfly strap for comfort and the perfect wrap around fit. The front shin protection area is Low density foam filled/ cane reinforced construction. The side calf wings are High density foam. The instep is Mesh with hard-wearing piping, and above the knee you have Added protection on top hat.

And at $65 this is genuinely great quality set of pads that isn’t overpriced like some big UK Boutique brands. You can feel comfortable buying these pads as it would be a wise investment on your part. i dont really see the reason to spend over $100 on a set of pads, or gloves to be honest. Not with products like this coming out of SG. To buy these pads now, please click here.

SG TEST cricket batting gloves

These new 2012 SG test batting gloves are also a great buy, whilst im not a fan of the sausage finger design i do understand it gives you a better level of protection than the block split finger of the SG maxilite ultimate gloves.

But what you gain in protection you lose in comfort and flexibility.  Whilst im not saying these gloves are uncomfortable, but on my hands in particular i just feel a bit cramped in them and a bit stiff on my fingers. As i said in my maxilite review, the same goes with these gloves.  The leather on the palms is soft but not to soft that you feel you might tear it or something like that. The gloves offer top of the line protection at a fraction of the cost of top level gloves which is what we have grown accustomed to with SG cricket gear. A good quality product at an affordable price.

As far as features of this glove is concerned the finger rolls are Top grade imported Polyurethane. It also has the Nylon gusset for ventilation. It has a Sponge-padded polyurethane back for better fit and comfort. The sg test batting gloves also have Extra finger protection reinforced with a thermoplastic polyurethane insert in the first two fingers of the lead hand. The finger rolls are Cotton filled. it also has Extra PITTARDS® leather patch on hard-wearing areas of the palm so they may last longer. And of course Toweled wristband with embossed Velcro® fastener
