Ive been collecting cricket bats now for quite some time and have always had my eye on a Screaming Cat cricket bat. Screaming cat cricket bats or “Scats” as they are affectionately known are as i was telling my wife on the weekend, are the Bugatti Veyron of cricket bats. They are expensive at around $599 USD which is about the top of the pile. And is up there with the GN legend UK version, the GN legend AUS version, the B3 Bespoke, the Affinity spectre, the GM player editions and the Hammer platinum bats.
Julian Millichamp is the man behind screaming cat cricket bats and here is his story.
The reason i finally made the decision to get myself one of these bats is because i am doing another one of my famous video reviews. I did one previously in 2012 of some of the nicest bats i had in my store and it has received well over 100K views on youtube. . its in 2 parts…
When planning my 2013 video ( which is still a work in progress and waiting on a couple bats i knew that if i was going to make this next video bigger and better it had to include a bat from Julian himself as i knew this was one bat that people respected worldwide.
After chatting To Julian briefly on the phone and discussing what i wanted to do with the video, he said no problem Jason, he will make me a bat that goes like a “screaming cat “. I was thrilled to hear the news and waited ” impatiently ” for my new bat to arrive. Normally custom made bats take at least two or three weeks to be made but Julian whipped this one up special for me and got it on my doorstep in about 10 days. Upon opening the box, i was even more impressed. Here are a few pics of the bat..
The willow quality on this particular bat is superb. I asked for a 2.11 bat and thats exactly what i got. The spine height of this bat is incredible and the edges are quite small. Going against all modern day bat making trends. I prefer this idea as its not the edges that are important, its the middle. regardless of your style of play, most often i believe you will be hitting the middle of the bat rather than the edge and thats why you want the majority of the wood in the middle and not on the outside edges of the bat. I found the handle very very nice. It starts quite thin at the top of the handle and gets quite thick at the base. And it just feels good in the hands..
The balance of the bat is superb and the ping is simply amazing. Definitely in the top 5 bats ive ever pinged. Its class, and in todays bat market thats hard to come by. The majority of companies are mass producing bats in india ( which is not a bad thing ) but if you want that something special, that once in a life time purchase then its a Julian Millichamp Screaming Cat Series 1 professional cricket bat that you want. Its stands head and shoulders above 99% of bat brands out there in the market today. There are only a few brands that can go toe to toe with a screaming cat. And in the next couple weeks you will see a few of them in the new Cricket Store Online #bestcricketbats video review. Stay tuned…
