I am a cricket fan but more than that I am a cricket bat fan. I love noticing the little cricket bat quirks. I have been intrigued that AB De Villiers has been seen training with an MRF cricket bat, does this mean that AB De Villiers will be leaving the Kookaburra cricket bats that he has used for the entirety of his career?
I also noticed that the MCC has made recommendation that the law be changed to limit the size of cricket bats. How will this affect the game as we know it? Will it stop top edges going for 6?
But most intriguing of all to me was Karun Nair.
Karun Nair scored a magnificent triple century. I watched as India piled on more than 700 runs against a hapless English attack. But all the while I kept on thinking to myself over the long Karun Nair innings, when is the last time I saw an Indian batsman using a Gray Nicolls cricket bat?
Nair was in fact using the Gray Nicolls Pro Performance cricket bat. I cannot even think when is the last time I saw an Indian cricketer using a GM cricket bat or a Kookaburra cricket bat.
Umar Akmal used to use a GM cricket batand Dinesh Chandimal used a Kookaburra, Kumar Sangakkarra used a Kookaburra for a long while but I cannot remember when is the last time I saw a batsman from India, Pakistan or Sri Lanka using a predominantly English or Australian cricket bat.
It is well known that at lower levels in Indian cricket these bats are very prevalent. There are some GM cricket bats that are even produced in India but is this Karun Nair triple century going to be the beginning of a trend with top professional Indian cricketers using bats like Gray Nicolls. Or will it be a matter of time before we see Karun Nair using an MRF or SGlike cricket bat?
This perhaps goes back to another article i wrote about how it always seems to be a Gray Nicolls Cricket Bat that is involved in record breaking knocks.
The Gray Nicolls Powerbow Stripe Generation X Junior Cricket Bat is a top of the line cricket bat that is built specifically with Junior’s in mind. The willow on these bats is superb and Gray Nicolls have not gone skimpy at all on the willow because it is in the Junior range. Each of these Gary Nicolls Powerbow Junior bats comes with multiple grains.
Powerboaw generation x cricket bat
The sweet spot is slightly lower than on many of their full size bats but there is overall power all over the bat.The slightly lower sweet spot may be of benefit to junior cricketers in getting them to play with a straight bat. It is classically easier to play the horizontal bat shots with a bat that has a mid to high sweet spot but this Gray Nicolls packs a lot of power all the same. There is slight concaving but this if anything enhances a feather light pick-up and great balance when taking strike and striking the ball.
The Gray Nicolls Powerbow Stripe Generation X cricket bat is also a budget friendly cricket bat and for the quality of willow that the bat provides, it is incredibly well priced. Junior bats often need a little more tender loving care as they are handled by juniors, these bats come fitted with a scuff sheet and a lovely neon green toe guard. The neon green matches the stickers and overall young but classy look to the bat.
The Gray Nicolls Powerbow Stripe Generation X is an English Willow cricket bat. There may be slight blemishes on the face of the bat along with also slight curvature on some of the grains but the performance of the Gray Nicolls Powebow is top class.
If you were to be picking a cricket bat on performance as opposed to looks before looking at the price tag, this junior Gray Nicolls cricket bat would be high on the list. It would match some of the pricier cricket bats on offer for its performance.
Now this is exciting. A brand new range of batting gloves from Gray Nicolls. The Gray Nicolls Silver Batting Gloves. These gloves are virtually a player’s edition quality cricket glove and they are priced initially by Gray Nicolls at an exceptionally good price.
For starters with a glove, you obviously look at protection. These gloves come with a fully fiber-glassed shell for the most vulnerable leading index finger. That is the kind of protection you want for what is the most exposed part of the hands when you bat. The middle finger of that leading hand is also fiber-glassed to the half way point as that finger is also in the firing line when the batsman faces up to the bowler.
These gloves are simple but very classy with their sausage style finger design. The sausage fingers offer a good deal of flexibility. The thumb is a 3-piece, the 3-piece thumb offers additional flexibility to the thumb of the batsman who uses his thumb mainly to manipulate the balls direction off his bat.
Many bastmen will check the glove to see what kind of protection is offered where the hand will grip the bat. The Gray Nicolls Silver gloves have great Gel-Tek up the side of the glove with a lot of soft fill to give the batsman an extremely comfortable grip on the bat.
The palm of the Gray Nicolls Silver Gloves is made from very high quality leather with extra reinforced patches on the places of the palm that would wear out first. It has superb breathability and ventilation as well as a very large and comfortable sweat band.
The Gray Nicolls Silver Gloves are off course finished with a very high quality and high durability velcro strap that keeps the gloves snugly on the batsman’s hands.

If you love a good cricket bat but you are on a tight budget then you may have just found yourself an absolute cricket bat winner with the Hammer Vapen 3 Star Cricket Bat. Introduced at the bargain price of $149.99, this is a cricket bat that plays well above its price category.
Hammer Cricket have proved that they time and time again produce high quality cricket bats at incredibly low prices and the Hammer Vapen 3 Star is no different. The Hammer Vapen was one of Hammer’s best selling bats and the return of this one will be pleasing to many cricketers. It features incredible 40mm edges. You may expect it to be in the 2lbs9oz or the 2lbs12oz range but this bat generally weighs in at 2lbs7oz, that is incredibly well weighted for a bat that has as much willow as the Vapen does.
The profile is beautiful for a mid to low sweet spot cricket bat. The mid to low sweet spot is the preferred sweet spot area for cricketers, particularly those plying their trade in North America. The weight and balance of the bat is also very pleasing. Aside from being feather light for its willow mass, it feels very comfortable and evenly distributed when holding it.
Aesthetically, the Hammer Vapen 3 Star is very pleasing with black and blue stickers highlighting the willow instead of covering it over. The bat comes finished with a toe guard and upon request from the guys at Cricket Store Online can be prepared for match readiness.
At this price, it may not be long before all of these bats are off the shelf. While you at it, check out some of the other great Hammer gear.
Masuri have clearly pulled away from the competition in terms of cricket helmets with their vision series. Players, officials and fans are far more aware of the cricket helmet these days and the Masuri Vision Series Helmets along with the stem guard are offering a high level of protection. Club cricketers will enjoy the Masuri Club Cricket Helmet.
The Club Cricket Helmet from Masuri has a few outstanding features that really make it a winner for club cricketers. The Masuri Club Cricket Helmet is built with Twin Protection in the shell. This means that there is a double layer of protective composite for double the protection and double the durability.
Like all of the Masuri Vision Series Helmets, the Masuri Club Cricket Helmet has Masuri’s unique AIRFLOW Cooling System. This allows for air to flow freely to the head of the batsman. This keeps him cool in even the most heated situations but in no way compromises the safety structure of the helmet. A more comfortable batsman is often a better performing batsman and Masuri have paid attention to that detail.
The aspect of the Masuri Club Cricket Helmet along with all other Vision Series Helmets that truly sets them “helmet and shoulders” above the rest is the HALO Reinforcement system. This is what truly gives the helmet its protective edge. This unique system minimizes the movement between the peak and the grille. It’s a doubled protective edge as the HALO system automatically reinforces and stands its ground when it is hit by the ball.
All of this can be rather costly but Masuri along with their retailers have done incredibly well to keep the price of this helmet to a very fair price. It is available in an array of colors and with a multitude of sizes to fit juniors and cricketers.
If you are well experienced with cricket bats and no your really good willow from your average willow then there is only one bat that you want to get your hands on this season. This is the CA 15000 Players Edition Cricket Bat. CA must have some sort of willow tree whisperer that makes the most pristine willow trees grow for them. They are untouchable in terms of the impeccable willow that they consistently churn out from their factory and this bat is made from the best of the best.
There is at least 8 straight grains on every one of these bats, so if you are a grains or a straight grains type of batsman you will have something to shout about with this bat. As with CA bats there is a slight concave and the power is in the very center of the bat. The quality of the willow is such that there is an extended sweet spot that gives power to virtually every part of the bat.
The edges on the CA 15000 Players Edition Cricket Bat are no less than 41mm, that is gigantic by any standard and considering how high the quality of the willow is, it really is a complete package bat.
The pick up and weight distribution on sub-continental bats has always been deemed to be slightly inferior to the English and Aussie made bats. They were deemed to be slightly toe heavy and such but that is completely not the case with the CA 15000 Players Edition Cricket Bat. The weight distribution is very even for a very light pick up across all the bat’s weight ranges. It is easy to see why players as good as Dilshan, Kieron Pollard and Nasir Jamshed are finding good reason to use the CA cricket bats.

The handle of the bat is an XRD handle. Research and development has gone into producing this handle that reduces vibration to the hands of the batsman and gives maximum output when striking the ball. Another unique facet of this cricket bat is the contour of the shoulders.
