Hammer Hel156 premium english willow cricket bat

Hammer Cricket now has in stock an updated 2014 version of its very popular Hammer Hel 156 cricket bat. Hammer recognized the reputation of the 2013 version of this bat, and therefore only made minor changes to the 2014 version.

Hammer Hel 156 cricket bat

Hammer Hel 156 cricket bat

Each Hammer Hel156 premium english willow cricket bat is handcrafted in England and made from performance grade English willow. This ensures that all Hammer bats are going to have a high number of straight grains with little to no blemishes.

The shape of the premium Hammer Hel156 premium english willow cricket bat allows it to be great for one day play as well as T20 cricket and longer formats. It’s got a slight camber and a very subtle bow, which gives the bat a nice neutral pickup. The edge on this bat sits at around 35 mm, giving the bat a nice balance.

The Hammer Hel 156 bat features a medium hybrid sweet spot. This means it’s got lots of wood where you’re going to be hitting the ball, but it also has a really nice amount of wood up high at the shoulders, allowing you to still play defense and defensive shots well.

This premium Hammer cricket bat is fitted with a comfortable oval handle. New to 2014, the decals on the Hammer Hel 156 bat are updated and take up less space on the bat. They’re still classic orange and black, but a little more minimalist.

Hammer’s Hel 156 2014 cricket bat is available in four grades: Core, Pro, Limited Edition, and Platinum. Platinum bats are custom made to the customer’s specs. Each bat is fitted with a toe guard, scuff sheet, and a Hammer bat cover.

All-in-all, the Hammer Hel 156 2014 cricket bat is a great all around bat for different types of play. Head over to HammerCricket.com or CricketStoreOnline.com to pick up your premium bat today.

Gray Nicolls Andrew Strauss Maverick limited Edition cricket bat

Gray Nicolls Andrew Strauss Maverick limited Edition cricket bat

Gray Nicolls Andrew Strauss Maverick limited Edition cricket bat

Ive had a very good look at a lot of cricket bats in my short career in the cricket industry. And a hot topic of conversation has always been players grade cricket bats and bats designed and used by professional players.

This bat ive reviewed above in the video, the Andrew Strauss version on a gray nicolls maverick cricket bat is a very nice piece of willow. This particular cricket bat had a very light pickup, and weighed about 2lbs 0.85oz. The blade had a pronounced bow and flat face profile.

IMG_7919 IMG_7920 IMG_7921IMG_7918

I was also pretty surprised to see the huge edge size difference in these bats, and noticed GN do this on a lot of their cricket bats. Im not sure whats the purpose of this or if its a genuine mistake. I would love to hear back from them regarding this. This cricket bat does come with a toe guard and also a shoulder length padded Gray nicolls bat cover. The handle is nicely oval and the snake skiing grip is still one of my favorites..

These high end gray nicolls cricket bats are made of premium G1 english willow grown in england and then shipped to the GN factory where the finest bat makers go to work handcrafting them. All Gray Nicolls bats these days are edge stamped with the Gray Nicolls insignia to show authenticity. The flat face on this bat was quite surprising with a very big banana bow on the face as normally player grade bats have a more traditional camber on the face with very little bow. But this i guess is how Andrew Strauss likes his bats and thats ok. Over all the Ping and performance of this cricket bat was great and anybody will be very lucky to get themselves one of these bats..

Ihsan cricket Spartan cricket debate continues….

Ihsan cricket Spartan cricket debate continues….

So it looks like spartan cricket are not going to be able to drop this fake cricket bat / pakistan made story after all. some more pics have surfaced of their bats being made in the Ihsan factory…

Now just to recap for people who don’t know what this story is all about.. Jason from cricket store online many times contacted Spartan in an attempt to buy gear directly from them in Australia….however spartan were in no way accommodating and never returned any of his calls or emails.. After a month or two of trying with spartan he gave up on them. A little while later he heard that Spartan had moved their production from india and moved it to Ihsan in pakistan at which point he was also contacted and offered some of these made in pakistan spartan cricket bats. ( at a hefty price )

As Jason always tries to have the best gear first and get it all reviewed on youtube he jumped at the opportunity and bought 4 of the spartan cricket bats from Ihsan…

The problems started when he got the bats…they were to say the least just awful..

As you can see from my review of these bats i was just blown away by how bad these bats were and quickly asked ihsan for my money back…i was however rejected..

The very next day after uploading this video to youtube i was contacted by Mr Kunal Sharma of spartan. yeah this guy in the video below seen here with Mr Michael Clarke himself.

So yeah this guy calls me up and tells me i don’t know what im talking about and that the only bats made by Ihsan are the kashmir willow ones and all english willow bats are made in their factory in india…therefore the bats i got from Ihsan were in fact fakes..

This was an eye opener for me of course and immediately took the video off youtube for them..In an awesome gesture from Kunal he also sent me 3 replacement MC 329 and CG 333 bats.. i did also at that point put out a new video of the REAL spartan cricket bats to try and rectify any mistakes i had made in the first video..

So we were all good after this and according to Kunal none of their english willow bats are made in pakistan however no where on their website ( that ive been able to find )do they state where their bats are actually made. It was just in the conversation on the phone that he told me that only the kashmir willow bats are made by Ihsan..

So anyway found it really interesting when i was forwarded these images from a ” friend ” in pakistan..

Ihsan cricket and Spartan cricket debate continues....

Spartan cricket bats being made in Pakistan in Ihsan factory

This bat here being made is clearly the spartan MC329 triumph which according to the spartan catalogue is an english willow cricket bat.

Ihsan cricket and Spartan cricket debate continues....

spartan 329 combat cricket bats at the ihsan factory

So what good does any of this information do to anybody…well let me explain.

One of the major issues we have in our sport is people selling fake cricket gear.Im hoping by publishing this information that people will be more informed and only buy cricket gear from official suppliers like www.cricketstoreonline.com or at least come to me for some guidance… Random people on facebook or ebay is NOT a good place to buy cricket gear. pleas email me at jason@cricketstoreonline.com and send me pics of bats people are trying to sell you and i will give you my opinion of what i think…

Also if you have been involved in the cricket industry for any amount of time you will know there is a lot of smoke and mirrors when it comes to putting out a cricket bat..i want suppliers to be more open and honest when it comes to where their gear is made. why people are like this i dont know but this is my current official opnion on the spartan issue. ( please note i have the right to change this opinion whenever i see fit and could be out of date 5 minutes after i publish this blog.)

I dont care where or who makes spartan cricket gear, i just wish they at least could be honest about it. i do however feel as of right now that Ihsan DOES have the contract to make some of the lower end G4 english willow and kashmir willow bats for them. i DONT however feel Ihsan are making the top end $500 + spartan bats as ive seen the quality they put out and are clearly made in india ( and are very very good )..therefore any top of the line spartan bats that are made in pakistan are still fakes ( in my opinion )and if you want the real thing you have to buy directly from stores in Australia..not facebook, twitter or eBay.. if you want one of these fake Ihsan ones, dont pay top dollar for them, i am selling them for $100 ea…just email me..they are pretty good G1 english willow bats made by ihsan, just not worth $500 +USD.

I am happy to discuss this issue more with Kunal of spartan but as usual…he doesnt answer my calls or emials so we are all left to speculate..YOU make up your own mind and let me know via my facebook page http://www.facebook.com/cricketstoreonline what you think..

Perfect Score of 9/9

Phenomenal gloves. Would be very happy to wear these myself. fit really snug on my hands. very comfortable around my wrist and offer test level protection. Might not be the prettiest gloves ( some might disagree ) but certainly are as good as the adidas adi pure and the kahuna 1000. And even better about these awesome gloves is the price.

Thumbs up from me.

My opinion

Wow thats expensive, but so is a ferrari or an Aston Martin. And are they worth every penny. Absolutely. These bats are incredible. Some of the best bats ive picked up in a long time. Great Ping, balance is awesome. total confidence that you will clear any boundary on the planet. This bat only scores a 36/45. however take the price out of the equation and change the score to 35, you will have a bat that scores 33/35. thats not to bad.

We Like

– Just about everything about it. Shape, profile, ping, handle shape, presence, willow.

pickup index ( 4 ) i like this

We Dislike

– No bat cover…WTF. $699 USD and no bat cover????? Thats lame.

My opinion

I dont love this bat as much i do the epic PE, but that doesn’t take away from the fact its an awesome bat. all the characteristics as the epic. Expensive, exclusive, brilliant. Pity about the slight blemish on the toe on this one bat.take the price out of the equation and change the score to 35, you will have a bat that scores 32/35. thats not to bad.

We Like

Finish: Polycoat and toetec

My opinion

I like this bat and the shape. its has a nice low elongated middle that extends up the blade and its very well balanced. The balance is a little light as it comes in 2.10 with a pickup index of 2 but it carries it very will and i could see myself playing with this bat as its very close to one of the bats i currently use myself. see Hammer cricket bats.take the price out of the equation and change the score to 35, you will have a bat that scores 33/35. thats not to bad.

We Like

– I love the balance and pickup of this bat even though its lighter than i usually use. Ping is awesome obviously as are all of the player edition cricket bats.

pickup index ( 2 )Its very light but i like this one a lot

We Dislike

– Still…seriously. no bat cover….

Weight Guide: 2lb 11oz
Sample Weight: 2lb 11 oz
Handle: Oval at bottom
Edge (at widest): 35mm
Finish: Polycoat and toetec
Toe Protection: Yes

My opinion

This bat and the shane watson are the only two bats in the range that are anything like the actual GM range of bats. eg the watson shape is very similar to the actual flare and this Ross taylor bat is similar to the Icon shape but the G.smith and the Trott bats are nothing like the bats they are endorsing shape and profile wise. Overall however its still an awesome bat with a large middle and will dwarf any ground out there.take the price out of the equation and change the score to 35, you will have a bat that scores 33/35. thats not to bad.

We Like

– Very good weight and balance with the pickup index being a perfect 3. combining control and power. Any batsman will love this bat in their hands.

pickup index ( 3 )

We Dislike

– im starting to not love the sharp icon spine. if 3/4 GM pros don’t have the sharp spine with con-caved rear profile, is that a sign that there is something to the design??

Star Rating

Price: 3/10                              weight : 2.11

Dont be fooled by ” Players ” grade cricket bat willow.

Just thought i would start a little topic of players grade bats and wanted to let people know you shouldnt be fooled as not all PLAYERS bats are in fact players grade willow.

I think i will start with my the GM definition of players grade bats.
” PLAYER EDITION bats are made from LE timber and are finished with prestige PLAYER EDITION identification and superb laser engraved player autographs. GM NOW! and ToeTekTM finish fitted as standard. PLAYER EDITION bat weights cannot be specified and will be “as finished”.[/size]Please note that Team GM product development is a continuous process. PLAYER EDITION configurations shown are those in use by our players at the time of preparation of this Book of Cricket.”

So i think this is a good benchmark for players grade bats.

Kookaburra also have a players grade bats and its also described as being limited edition and something special.
GN also have the GN legend which is also their top of the line bat and is also something limited, even though yesterday i shipped a G2 GN legend to australia as it had 20 grains but clearly had 50% heartwood which would mean its G2 correct??

Now newbery have a Players grade bat as well. the problem is im not sure what players they are talking about here as its clearly not their top of the line willow, which is the SPS.
GN also have a players grade just above the carbo i believe. this is also not PLAYERS grade willow.
My friends at Vindico also have a players plus which is also not Players grade willow as described by GM or Kookaburra.

Can you guys think of any other brands that have named their bats ” PLAYERS ” bats which is not necessarily a scam but rather just  the name they have chosen?

My opinion

Actually very impressed with this bat. the willow quality is superb and the craftsmanship is some of the best ive seen out of india. This is a good bat for the price around $300.

We Like

– the willow quality, the ping, the finish.

We Dislike

– the balance, even though it has a low sweetspot doesn’t mean it should have a 3 or higher pickup index.

SG Sunny Gold cricket bat review

Specifications

Origin: India
Wood: According to SG its Made from top-of-the-line English Willow
Sizes Available: SH and Long blade
Weight Guide: 2lb 8oz-3lb+
Sample Weight: 2lb 10 oz
Handle: round
Edge (at widest): 40mm
Finish: Poly coat
Toe Protection: Yes

My opinion

I was a little surprised with this bat as i actually found a noticeable difference on it from your stock standard SG bat. They have increased the size of the edges around the sweetspot similar to the T20i and T11i bats meaning you have a much better chance of clearing that fielder in the deep.  The bigger edges help you to transfer power to the ball meaning the ball will travel further than usual. If you get caught on the boundary alot then maybe this is the bat for you.

We Like

– The big 40mm edges

We Dislike

– The fact that i couldn’t tell the difference between the willow on this bat at $299 and the sunny tonny cricket bat which is $239. Maybe the extra $60 is for the bigger edges.

My opinion

A fantastic bat for the price. The quality of the willow is the same quality as is being used on some GM original cricket bats which are more than double the price. Its over all a very good bat. Good quality willow, good finish, good balance ( 1 or 2 ), pretty good ping and nice willow. Oh and best of all is the price at only $179

We Like

– The finish
– The quality of the willow and the price

We Dislike
